MCM inaugurates theatrical new flagship store in Switzerland
German luxury brand MCM has announced the opening of its latest flagship boutique in Switzerland. Located in Zurich at the heart of the Old Town in Munsterhof, the shop is the brand’s first standalone boutique in Switzerland.
The 160sq m boutique is described as a harmony of artisanship and modernity, designed to purvey a luxurious brand experience for consumers. It features a fresh design concept featuring a distinctive golden facade. The interior boasts contemporary clean lines with subtle neutral tones and touches of tradition, inspired by MCM’s signature brass plate designs.
The latest interior design allows for sweeping views throughout the product display panels, offering a variety of different spaces for each of the ranges on display.
Theatrical Media Wall
The Zurich flagship features a theatrical media wall comprising nine 3 x 3 metre screens. This media space was designed as an opportunity to reach consumers’ emotions and to convey the experience of a transcending voyage, MCM said.
The past-meets-future ‘Crossed for Zurich’ store design was developed to harmonise the brand’s pride for heritage with contemporary communications through giant digital installations and in-store iPads, both used for the first time in an MCM store.

Hyundai global design teams develop 'My Baby' internal project contest ideas
Hyundai has revealed the designs submitted for its 'My Baby' global internal design project.
The project – a biennial contest that started in 2008 – asked the carmaker's design teams to use ‘new thinking' to preview a future without technological or manufacturing limits. Hyundai designers from bases in Korea, the USA, China, Japan, Europe and India were also tasked with reinterpreting and developing the carmaker's ‘Fluidic Sculpture' design language.
This year's theme was ‘Discovery 2050', a sci-fi story set in 2050 where a space probe – consisting of the Future Lab, Airship and Marine – is launched in search of another home for civilization. The brief was to imagine what tools the probe would use in its quest.
A number of designs were chosen to develop into the scale models that were unveiled at this year's Seoul motor show.
Here are the three sections of the space probe:
1. Future Lab
At the Future Lab, researchers develop high-tech products to help explore the universe while making life easier.
2. Airship
At the Airship section, flying units are on standby to explore space.
3. Marine
A variety of devices for marine transportation, to explore the deep sea as well as to purify the water, are anchored at the Marine section.
